Software development for US companies

Vixit AI Studios is a product engineering studio in Ranchi, India, working with founders and companies in the United States. This page is about how that arrangement works in practice — overlap hours, contracts, intellectual property and payment — because those are the questions that actually decide whether an offshore engagement succeeds.

The overlap question, answered honestly

India Standard Time is 9.5 to 12.5 hours ahead of the US mainland depending on the coast and the season. That is not a small difference, and pretending it is would be the first warning sign.

In practice it means a fixed overlap window rather than all-day availability: our evening is your morning, which gives a reliable few hours for calls and decisions. Everything outside that window is asynchronous, which is fine if — and only if — the work is scoped well enough that we are not blocked waiting for you.

The failure mode is a project that needs constant clarification. If your requirements are genuinely still being discovered, a distributed engagement will feel slow. The remedy is scoping work properly before the build, which is worth doing regardless.

Intellectual property, contracts and code ownership

You own the code, the repository sits in your organisation from the first commit, and the assignment should be written into the agreement rather than assumed. Any vendor unwilling to put that in writing is telling you something.

We are comfortable with US-style contracting: a master services agreement with statements of work per phase, mutual NDAs, and clear IP assignment clauses. We do not need you to adopt an unfamiliar process to work with us.

What US clients typically hire us for

First-version SaaS products where a founder needs a real system rather than a prototype. AI-native applications where a model sits in the core loop and the surrounding engineering — cost per tenant, fallback paths, storing outputs alongside inputs for later explanation — is the actual work. Marketplaces and commerce platforms. And performance and reliability work on products that shipped and then started struggling.

The honest case against hiring us

If you need someone in the room daily, or your requirements will be discovered week by week with heavy real-time collaboration, a local team is a better fit and we will tell you so.

We are also a small studio. If you need thirty engineers next month, we are the wrong call. What we offer is a small number of people who will know your system properly, and who you will speak to directly rather than through an account manager.

Frequently asked

What are your working hours relative to US time zones?

We are in India Standard Time, 9.5 to 12.5 hours ahead of the US mainland depending on coast and season. Our evening overlaps with your morning, which gives a dependable window for calls. Work outside that window is asynchronous, which requires scope to be clear enough that nobody is blocked waiting.

Who owns the intellectual property?

You do. The repository sits in your organisation from the first commit and IP assignment is written into the agreement rather than assumed. We work with standard US contracting — master services agreement, statements of work per phase, mutual NDA.

How do US clients pay an Indian studio?

By international bank transfer against invoices issued in USD, typically tied to phase milestones. Milestones should attach to working software you can log into rather than to calendar dates.

How is this different from a large offshore outsourcing firm?

Scale and contact. A large firm can staff thirty engineers and will route you through account management, with the people writing your code changing over time. We are a small studio: fewer people, direct contact with whoever is building, and continuity. If you need a large team quickly, a bigger firm is genuinely the better answer.
